Announcements:
- Volunteer sign-up for TEEN STREET: Saturday, 2/21 5-9pm at the Boys and Girls Club. Variety of tasks and time slots. Wonderful way to support our youth in the community.
- Trivia – Sandy. 77 people. Raised $950 for the Windham County Humane Society.
- International – Tristam. Planning a 4 day trip to Honduras in June(?). 2cnights spent at the school and 2 nights spent in town. The plan is to assess medical needs. Contact Tristam if you are interested in going.
- Dinner Raffle - March 18th! Sales seem to be going well. If you have books in need of selling and need help, let us know. We have some “super sellers” who can help sell them. Likewise, if you need more books, ask some of the folks who are having trouble getting theirs sold. Reminder to share FB posts and like the posts, we have a "Square" account for those who would like to purchase tickets with a card. Remember to fill out the booklets of tickets for anyone who purchases with Square. Otherwise, it will be a donation without the opportunity to win the prizes. And lastly, if you are having trouble selling tickets let the Club know so others can try and help.
- Square - If you have questions about the "Square" please reach out to Diane. She is also posting a different restaurant each week on FB with a nice write-up about the restaurant. This seems to be working well as we have been selling quite a few this way. And the Hinsdale students have agreed to oversee selling our tickets on Instagram as well! Thank you, Rylee and Taylor.
- Bingo - Feb 28th 4- 8:30. We are still in need of a crockpot and Tristan has agreed to make it! Just drop off your donations to Mona on Saturday between 2p and 3p if you are not going to Bingo. And Toni just signed up for the last raffle basket. Otherwise, we have everything we need.
- Other announcements - Disc Golf, Nick will be organizing earlier than they have in the past for sponsorships. The disc golf tournament date is set for Oct 3rd and 4th. Sandy was contacted by Tom Costello of the American Legion about getting their local oratorical contest candidate, Danny Schmidt, to present his 10-minute speech to our club. Danny is a Senior at BUHS and will be going on to the state contest. I believe he will be presenting on 2/25.
- Student Rotarians Rylee and Taylor. Both girls are in the National Honor Society, and they run a program called NB60 where every week they pack bags for Hinsdale elementary school children and their families who are in need of non-perishable food for the weekend. It’s a national organization so there’s no money. We just get a pre-paid debit card and are restricted as to what we can buy. They currently have 45 kids, which is very, very high. So obviously, it’s getting expensive, so the Hinsdale Lions Club has stepped up to help as well with a $1,000 annual donation. On Valentine’s Day weekend the Senior class held a semi-formal for the entire high school. The boys’ basketball team is ranked 2nd in their division going into the playoffs and will get the benefit of two home playoff games. Yearbooks are being finalized soon, and the Seniors are in the process of filling out scholarship applications and visiting colleges. Winter break is next week (2/23 – 2/27). Finally, the girls took questions about their Principal and the issue with bullying.
- Rotarians for Rotarians: Nick and Josh – Not Just Tourists program. Nick is taking a suitcase full of medical supplies to Jamaica while on vacation. (I know he had a second which involved Melissa too, but I failed to get all the details. Sorry)
- Will – He described it as an obligation rather than an act of kindness (the editor believes it to be BOTH!) He was skiing with his neighbor at Mount Snow when halfway down the mountain his friend stopped, turned to Will and said he didn’t know where he was! After a few questions, Will determined that his neighbor needed to be evaluated at the hospital. After waiting for about 3 hours, the diagnosis came back as some sort of cognitive impairment called temporary global amnesia meaning his short-term memory was lost. Good news – he has recovered and is back to singing and playing his cello. Will said his memory is back to 100%.

- Service: 30 For 30, Celebrating 30 years of Service with 30 Acts of Kindness
- Brags or “Service Above Self” stories
- Josh – “Chasing Sunrise”. The 2021 COVID virtual trip around the world visiting other rotary clubs by Zoom. We used it as a fundraiser. Club members participating could bike, walk, run, climb – any physical activity of their choosing and would raise money based on the amount of time they spent doing the activity. It raised $6,000 and was turned into a global adventure around the world. T
- Londa - Spent last week in Florida at a golf camp. She had never played golf before, so she signed up private lessons. She had the pro teaching her for 6 hours a day for 5 days straight. She said it was heaven! He pro was 80 years old, and his assistant was about the same age!
- Nick – his son turned 14 last week. Wow! He’s well on his way to becoming a great young man. He and his daughter Caroline spent President’s Day skiing and on Valentine’s Day, he and his wife had the house to themselves (kids went to friends’ homes for first time in 14v years!) Had a nice dinner at ECHO and realized they have been together for 21 Valentine’s Days!
- Mona – bragged for her dear friend and co-worker Wendy who recently passed away. As a co-worker, she would always perform little acts of kindness. Outside of work, Wendy would do the same like surprise her favorite florist with a box of munchkin donuts when the woman was having a very stressful day. Wendy’s husband heard about all of these stories through FB. Mona decided to assemble them all into a book of memories for him.
- Bowl of Life – “I spent the summer helping organic farmers with their farm in Westmoreland, NH and I still don’t know how to keep tomato plants alive” Guesses: Jon, Evelyn, Justin, Nick, Kevin, Tristan, Will, Jim Maxwell, Desiree, Tristam, Toni, Ben, MELISSA!
- CLUB ASSEMBLY – Student Rotarians have agreed to become administrators of the club’s Instagram page! Endowment Investment – Josh is working with the Vermont Community Foundation to help us manage our club’s long-term earnings. Rotary Newbies – Melissa reported that the “new” members have chosen to collaborate with the Boys and Girls Club and the high school arts program to develop a design for a beautification project in the Preston Lot.
