1. Opening Ceremonies and Gratitude
- The meeting opened with the Pledge of Allegiance.
- Debra thanked Ben for scribing, Londa for serving, and Josh for greeting. MJ and Will volunteered to serve next week, and Kristin is next week's scribe.
2. Welcome to Guests:
- We welcomed soon-to-be transferred members Dianne McCormick and Roger Cardinal!
3. Announcements
- 30 for 30
- Toni wrote an article for the website about our 30 for 30 project: 30 acts of kindness for 30 years of Brattleboro Sunrise Rotary. Recent acts of kindness were recollected, and members were encouraged to update the list, and in particular to include photos or images of the acts when possible. It was agreed on that an act should include no less than two Rotarians.
- New Members
- Dianne and Roger will be inducted on August 27th!
- Hiatus
- Collier Shutter will be taking a hiatus from Rotary for the time being.
- Crepes for a Cause
- Sandy can get people extra tickets for the “sold-out” Crepes for a Cause event at Scott Farm on August 20th, benefitting the Ethiopian Community Development Council.
- West River Trail Invasive Plant Pulling
- In partnership with the Noontime Rotary, there will be an invasive plant-pulling party on August 23rd from 9a-12p. A sign-up sheet was created and passed around. Maps to the site are available.
- Window Dressers signups
- Window Dressers have made available their signups for the Community Build event on the 25th and 26th of October.
4. Birthdays, Anniversaries, and Brags
- Birthdays:
- We celebrated Josh and Evelyn’s birthdays!
- Anniversaries:
- We celebrated Kevin’s 30th Rotary anniversary and Tristam’s 37th Rotary anniversary.
- Brags:
- Nick’s son, a long time camp skeptic, is actually enjoying Golf Camp.
- Kevin got to spend last weekend in San Diego with his son, daughter-in-law, and three grandchildren. He also gave away his father-in-law’s Red Sox sweatshirt.
- Katja has been helping some friends with garden work who have some health issues.
- Toni is going to Alabama to see her daughter on her first solo flight.
- Justin had a successful catering event 30m away for a group of 40 at a yearly retreat.
- Josh hit 15,540 miles on his bike.
- Roger is impressed with this club’s lively energy.
- Debra and Dan celebrated their Rotary Romance-iversary!
5. Assembly
- Bowl of Life:
- We have a new Bowl of Life, and everyone present added a fact about themselves or another member. Please continue to add to it!
- Rotary Disc Golf Tournament:
- The Signup Genius will be available in the next 2-3 weeks.
- The dates of the tournament are Saturday and Sunday, October 4 and 5.
- Roles include Flaggers, Registration, Score-Keepers, Post-Game Organizers, etc.
- Seeking sponsorships at the corporate, business, and individual levels. Benches, signs, logos on frisbees, lots of perks included. Please support Rotary by spreading the word or becoming a sponsor yourself! Learn more about the various levels of sponsorship by asking Josh or Nick.
- Saturday the 4th is the “Chuck for Charity” event; Sunday the 5th is the PDGA-certified tournament.
- The tournament is from 8a-12p.
- There might be a Sunrise Rotary social event in September to teach members how the game is played.
- The money raised from the tournament is split with Noontime Rotary and goes directly to the Scholarship fund.
- Strategic Plant:
- Nick distributed hard copies of the club’s Strategic Plan. He reminded us that it was a living document, and to come to him with suggestions anytime.
