-President Debra announced the new, weekly ritual of standing up, staring meaningfully into one’s table-neighbor's eyes, and shaking hands.

After members obeyed diligently, Debra notified the room that this was an April Fool’s Joke. There was widespread relief.

 

-Sandy announced the next social hour would be April 17 at the Marina, followed by May 9 at Debra’s for a potluck

 

-Debra announced the Blood drive May 19

 

-Diane announced district conference on May 30 in Keene

 

Kristen reported progress on the backpack supplies. She has collected $170 for school supplies.

 

The scholarship committee met after the current meeting.

 

Debra reported the Rotary Garden would receive free mulch this year and required “all-hands-on-deck” to spread mulch on April 12.

 

MJ reported on personalized books for students, which are being distributed.

 

Student Rotarian Riley reported on her upcoming Flower Fundraiser. Volunteer hours for fundraising, and the CCC Project

 

Student Rotarian Taylor reported on their AP Art History class field trip and Senior class events.

Diane presented a brief history of Women’s integration into the all-male Rotary. It took until 1989 until gender restrictions were officially removed. The first female district governor took office in 1995. Diane celebrated this inclusion of women into Rotary by generously presenting pins to the “Sister Rotarians" present at the meeting.

Londa’s 1 year anniversary was announced.

 

Diane reported that (by the website’s tracking) we hit the goal of 30 deeds.

 

Justin proudly announced his 11th marriage anniversary on Saturday

He also celebrated Van Gogh’s birthday on March 30, which is Bipolar Awareness Day. Justin gratefully thanked Tristan T. for his unwavering support over the years. He also thanked Tristan for the community support he provides through his years of employing young people in the community and the individual support and mentoring that he continues to give.

 

Will expressed appreciation that his wife's two knee surgeries over the past 8 years have finally allowed her to return to their shared activities of hiking and skiing.

 

MJ was grateful for her son’s 32nd birthday - which falls on April Fools Day and she made an age-related joke which we will not repeat here, since MJ is ageless

 

Debra announced that she was hosting her first-ever Seder, and prepping for Passover. She also expressed enthusiasm for her upcoming trip to Michigan with her 2 daughters.

 

Diane presented Roger Cardinal, President elect, as guest speaker

 

Roger talked about the way that Rotary, in general, and this particular club, in particular, has personally affected him and his growth as a person.

 

Roger expressed appreciation for Sunrise Rotary and how it “feels like something special” from other previous experiences. He mentioned the camaraderie, the openness, and warm friendships. He feels like Sunrise Rotary exemplifies the Rotarian attitudes and values, and brings out the best in each person. He talked about the sum is greater than the parts.

 

Roger talked about serving as Treasurer and after experiencing the warmth of this group, welcomed the opportunity to serve as President elect.
