Big Brothers/Big Sisters

Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of Windham County, a program of Youth Services, is dedicated to providing children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that can change their lives for the better, forever.

A Big Brother/Big Sister is essentially a caring friend and companion to a child living under difficult circumstances who is between the age of 6 and 15; someone a child can hang out with, get to know, and have fun with. Research proves that children enrolled in Big Brothers Big Sisters programs resulted in:

  • higher aspirations
  • avoidance of illegal drugs or alcohol
  • greater confidence
  • better relationships

Big Brothers Big Sisters has three different mentoring opportunities to fit our volunteer’s schedules and interests:

  • Site-Based mentoring. Meeting with your Little during school recess or lunch hour one day a week, excluding school vacations.
  • Community-Based mentoring. Meeting with your Little on evenings or weekends out in the community.
  • Site-Based Plus. Meeting with your Little once a week at their school with the added option of getting together in the community on weekends, school breaks and summer vacation.
